WEST EARL FIRE COMPANY RECEIVES GRANT FROM FEMA

The West Earl Fire Company is happy to announce the recent award of our grant application to the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. This is a federal grant through the Department of Homeland Security. Additional information on this grant program is here: http://www.firegrantsupport.com/

WEFC shall be using the $114,065 awarded to purchase new  SCBA ( self contained breathing apparatus )aka:airpaks. The SCBA we will be purchasing will meet the most current regulations for this equipment and shall  replace the current SCBA that we have, some of which has been in service for 20 years.

A single SCBA can cost as much as $7500.  We are hoping to buy 20 complete SCBA with a spare cylinder for each. Also in the application was a "RIT"-pak. RIT is Rapid Intervention Team, used to rescue downed or otherwise in trouble firefighters. We currently do not have a RIT-pak.

JUNIOR FF's TRAIN AT LCPSTC

March 12, 2006

This Saturday members of the Conestoga Valley High School Fire Club, including 3 members of WEFC, were given the chance to put their skills to work. Over the past few weeks students have been learning about engine company operations. To further their learning experience, the club spent the day at the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center. While at the training center, students practiced deploying hand lines, hooking up to a hydrant, and loading hose beds. All of these are skills vital to successful firefighting and are essential for new members of the fire service.

The Conestoga Valley High School Fire Club is in its first year. The first of its kind in Pennsylvania, the club is lead by Mr. Doug Stoner, a part of Conestoga Valley School District faculty and also a member of Millersville Fire Co. In addition to engine company operations, club members have received Intro to Safety Training and will soon be learning ropes and rigging.

2005 FIRE PREVENTION

October 17, 2005  Today members of the West Earl Fire Company traveled to Brownstown Elementary to teach some of the students about fire prevention.

Students practiced a simulated fire drill in the Lancaster County Firemen's Association's smoke trailer.  It is always important to have working smoke detectors and know two ways out of your home.

Students then participated in a tour of Engine 3-13-1, discussing some of the equipment we use and answering all of their questions about firefighting.
