2008 Incidents

6/30/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 20:20 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with Station 1-2 (AKRON) and EMS Units from Ephrata to a two vehicle injury crash in the 300 block of South 7th St.  Crews from 3-13 and 1-2 assisted EMS with several patients while Fire Police shut down Rt.272 between North Conestoga View Drive and Oak St. until the incident was complete at 20:59 hours.

     


6/30/08 -- Barn Fire Assist

At 18:36 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched as part of a First Alarm Assignment to assist Station 2-7 (NEFFSVILLE) at a reported Barn Fire on East Oregon Road.  3-13 units were placed available several minutes after arrival clearing at 18:47.


6/29/08 -- Dwelling Fire Assist

At 22:00 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched with several other departments as part of a 2nd Alarm Assignment to assist Station 2-10 (ROTHSVILLE) at a working Dwelling Fire on Santa Fe Drive.  While on the scene Crews from 3-13 assisted with fire suppression and water supply clearing at 23:32 hours.

06-14-2008 -- Gas Spill

At 18:52 hours Engine 3-13-1 was dispatched for spill control on Hawk Lane due to gasoline leaking from a vehicle.  The Engine Crew applied absorbent to the spill clearing at 19:08 hours.

 


6/12/08 -- Silo Fire

At 20:21 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with Truck 2-4 (EDEN) to a reported Silo Fire in the 3800 block of Oregon Pike.  Deputy 3-13 arrived and confirmed it to be dust from the silo and placed the box available.


6/11/08 -- Working House Fire Assist

At 04:53 hours Engine 3-13-1 was dispatched with several other departments to assist Station 3-11 (UPPER LEACOCK) at a working house fire on School Drive.  Upon arrival Engine 3-13-1's crew assisted with salvage and overhaul until released at 06:20 hours.  At 05:25 hours Traffic 3-13 was dispatched to the scene and shut down Rt.23 at Rt.772 until released at 07:07 hours.


6/10/08 -- Fire Police Assist With High Water

At 22:09 hours Station 3-13 Fire Police were dispatched to shut down Rt.772 between Locust St. and Forest Hill Road due to high water over the roadway at Groffs Run.  Fire Police remained on the scene until the arrival of Penndot at 00:22 hours.


6/10/08 -- Utility Shed Fire

At 19:11 hours While Lancaster County was on storm alert a call was received for a building fire on Waterwheel Drive.  3-13 members were at station and heard the call on the scanner and responded before being dispatched.  Deputy 3-13 arrived to find a working utility shed fire to the rear of a residence, the apparent cause of a lightning strike.  Crews from 3-13 extinguished the fire clearing at 20:03 hours.  While on the scene of this call Tanker 3-13 was requested to assist Station 3-9 (NEW HOLLAND) at a building fire on North Hollander Road.  The Tanker responded and went available shortly after arrival.

            

       


6/10/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 10:58 hours Station 3-13 Fire Police were dispatched to assist Station 1-2 (AKRON) with traffic control at the scene of a two vehicle injury crash on South 7th St. in front of the Turkey Hill.   Traffic Control was provided until the incident was complete at 11:43 hours.


6/6/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At16:30 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with Ambulance 3-8-1 (LEOLA) to a two vehicle accident at Rt.272 and Rt.772.  Engine 3-13-1's crew assisted EMS with one patient.  While units were still on the scene a second accident occurred at the intersection with no injuries.  The Company went available at 17:12 hours.

      


6/4/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At  12:25 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with EMS units from 2-10 (ROTHSVILLE), 3-8 (LEOLA) and MEDIC 4 (ECH) to a vehicle accident at Rt.272 and Rt.772.  Engine 3-13-1 with OIC Asst. Chief Nolt arrived to find a two vehicle injury crash with one patient confined.  Engine 3-13-1's crew removed a door off one vehicle and assisted EMS with two patients clearing at 13:02 hours.

       

 


5/31/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 07:50 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with Ambulance 3-8-1 (LEOLA) to a one vehicle accident at Rt.772 and School Lane Ave.  Crews from 3-13 assisted EMS with one patient and provided spill control clearing at 08:25 hours.


5/27/08 -- Duckling Rescue at Crossroads Family Health Center, 4131 Oregon PK.


5/23/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 08:42 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched to a vehicle accident in the 3800 block of Oregon Pike.  This call was originally dispatched to units from Manheim Township at Rt.272 and Bushong Road but was found to be in Warwick Township.  Units from 2-7 (NEFFSVILLE), 2-4 (EDEN) and EMS from 2-13 arrived to find one vehicle off the roadway that had struck a utility pole with the driver trapped.  Crews from 3-13 assisted with patient removal.  Fire Police remained on the scene until the vehicle was removed clearing at 09:30 hours.

     

     


5/22/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At  22:29 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched with EMS Units from 2-10 (ROTHSVILLE), 3-8 (LEOLA) and MEDIC 4 (ECH) to a vehicle accident at Rt.272 and Rt.772.  Chief 3-13 arrived to find a two vehicle accident with a large amount of fluids on the roadway.  Crews assisted EMS with one patient and provided spill control clearing at 23:08 hours.  This call was the first response for our new Squad 3-13-1.


5/20/08 -- Dumpster Fire

At 03:37 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched to Crystal Springs Water on Newport Road for a trash fire.  Chief 3-13 arrived and found a working fire in a large dumpster to the rear of the building.  Crews remained on the scene until the dumpster was emptied and all contents were extinguished clearing at 05:05 hours.


5/19/08 -- Commercial Building

At 17:18 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with units from 2-10 (ROTHSVILLE), 1-2 (AKRON), 3-5 (FARMERSVILLE), 2-4 (EDEN) and 1-15 (EPHRATA RESCUE) on a first alarm building assignment to Sauder Chevrolet on Oregon Pike.  Units arrived to find an odor of something burning in the building.  Crews did a complete check of the building and traced the cause to a problem with the HVAC System.  The incident was complete at 17:52 hours.


5/14/08 -- Motorcycle Accident

At 07:42 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with EMS Units from 2-10 (ROTHSVILLE), 3-8 (LEOLA) and Medic 2-13-1 (MANHEIM TOWNSHIP) to a vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on Rt.222 Northbound South Of Pool Road.  Engine 3-13-1 with OIC Captain Oberholtzer arrived to find one motorcycle rider down on the roadway.  Engine 3-13-1's crew assisted EMS with patient care and provided spill control.  Fire Police diverted traffic to the right shoulder of the roadway until the incident was complete clearing at 08:26 hours.

   

   


5/7/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 22:03 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with Ambulance 2-10 (ROTHSVILLE) and Medic 4 (ECH) to a vehicle accident on Rt.222 Southbound just south of Pool Road. Deputy 3-13 arrived to find one vehicle well off the roadway into a PP&L pole with no injuries. Crews had to stand by until PP&L arrived to cut the power at which time the vehicle could be removed. Units cleared the scene at 23:55 hours.


5/2/08 -- Vehicle Fire

At 16:54 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched to a vehicle fire on Rt.772 underneath the Rt.222 overpass. Chief 3-13 arrived to find a working pick up truck fire. Crews cleared the scene at 17:18 hours.

     

       

 


4/25/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 21:15 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with Ephrata EMS and Ephrata Rescue to a vehicle accident on Rt.222 Southbound at Miley Road. Engine 3-13-1 with OIC Captain Frymyer arrived to find a two vehicle crash with vehicles on both sides of the highway. One patient was transported by EMS.

   


4/18/08 -- Brush Fire

At 17:08 hours After just arriving back at station from the previous call 3-13 units were dispatched to a brush fire at Cocalico Creek Road and Circle Rock Drive.  Units extinguished a very small mulch fire clearing at 17:22 hours.


4/18/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 16:22 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with Ephrata EMS to an injury crash on Rt.222 Northbound at Miley Road.  Engine 3-13-1 with OIC Captain Frymyer arrived to find a one vehicle crash with the vehicle well off the roadway.  Units remained on the scene until the vehicle was removed clearing at 17:00 hours.


4/17/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 23:12 hours Engine 3-13-1 and Traffic 3-13 responded to assist Station 2-4 (EDEN) with a one vehicle injury crash on Rt.222 at the Oregon Pike interchange.  Engine 3-13-1 was placed available shortly after arrival.  Traffic 3-13 along with Traffic 2-7 (NEFFSVILLE) remained on the scene for traffic control while the Police Department conducted the accident investigation clearing at 03:32 hours.


4/12/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 21:07 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with Ambulances from 2-10 (ROTHSVILLE) and 3-8 (LEOLA) and Medic 4 (ECH) to a vehicle accident at Rt.272 and Rt.772.  Chief 3-13 arrived to find a two vehicle crash with injuries.  Engine 3-13-1's crew assisted EMS with patients and provided spill control.  3-13 Fire Police provided traffic control in the intersection until the incident was complete at 21:55 hours.

     


4/10/08  -- Vehicle Accident

At 07:59 Hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with Ambulance 2-10 (ROTHSVILLE) to a two vehicle injury crash at Rt.272 and Rose Hill Road. A second BLS (Basic Life Support) unit was requested which brought Ambulance 3-8-1 (LEOLA) to the scene.  Engine 3-13-1's crew assisted EMS with patients and provided spill control clearing at 08:31 hours.

        

       


4/3/08 -- Multiple Building Fire Assist

At 20:08 hours Tanker 3-13 was dispatched for the Tanker Transfer to Station 1-4 (DURLACH-MT.AIRY)  while they operated at the scene of multiple buildings on fire on North Clay Road.  A few minutes later at 20:14 hours Traffic 3-13 was alerted to respond to the 1-4 call to assist with traffic control.  Upon arrival 3-13 Fire Police shut down Rt.322 at Rock Road and remained at that intersection until released at 22:36 hours.  Tanker 3-13 was requested to the scene from Station 1-4 at 20:30 hours and operated on the scene until 01:18 hours.


4/2/08 -- Public Service

At 11:14 hours Engine 3-13-1 was dispatched for a public service call in the 100 block of Stone Quarry Road for a large tree that came down across the roadway.  The Engine Company went to work cutting up the tree while Fire Police shut down Stone Quarry Road until the tree was removed.  Units were available at 11:47 hours.


4/1/08   -- Vehicle Accident Traffic Assist

At 06:55 hours Traffic 3-13 was dispatched along with Traffic 2-7 (NEFFSVILLE) to assist Station 2-4 (EDEN) with traffic control at the scene of a two vehicle accident with entrapment at RT.23 and Eden Road.  Traffic 3-13 shut down RT.23 at Sycamore Ave. and assisted with traffic control until released at 07:41 hours.


3/18/2008  -- Vehicle Accident Traffic Assist

At 06:48 Hours Traffic 3-13 was dispatched to assist Station 2-7 (Neffsville) with traffic control at a one vehicle non-injury crash on Creek Road off Rt.272.  3-13 Fire Police shut down Creek Road between Rt.272 and East Oregon Road until released at 07:36 hours.


3/16/2008  -- Vehicle Accident

At 21:02 Hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with Ephrata EMS and Ephrata Rescue to a one vehicle crash on Rt.222 Northbound just north of Miley Road.  Engine 3-13-1 with OIC Captain Frymyer arrived to find one vehicle well off the roadway on its side against a tree with the driver confined inside.  Due to the extended extrication time another Engine was requested for additional man power which brought Engine 1-5-2 from Ephrata to the scene.  Units were available at 22:15 hours.

3/14/2008  -- Vehicle Accident

At 11:09 Hours Station 3-13 was dispatched along with Engine 2-4-1 (EDEN) Ambulance 2-10 (ROTHSVILLE) and Medic 2-13-1(MANHEIM TOWNSHIP) to a vehicle accident on Rt.222 Northbound at Pool Road.  Units arrived to find one vehicle off the roadway with the driver out of the vehicle.  A Helicopter was requested for transport however due to mechanical difficulties it was unable to respond so the patient was transported by ground.  Fire Police remained on the scene until the vehicle was removed clearing at 12:47 hours.


3/11/08  -- Vehicle Accident Traffic Assist

At 06:38 hours Traffic 3-13 was dispatched to assist Station 2-11 (SOUTHERN MANHEIM TOWNSHIP.) with traffic control at the scene of a vehicle accident with multiple fatalities on Rt. 30 Eastbound just west of Harrisburg Pike.  Upon arrival 3-13 Fire Police were assigned to the intersections of Rt. 30 and Rt. 741 and Rt. 741 and Harrisburg Pike.  We provided traffic control until being released at 08:45 hours.


3/11/08 -- Vehicle Fire

At 06:27 hours Engine 3-13-1 was dispatched to assist Station 2-4 (EDEN) on a reported tractor trailer fire on Rt.222 Northbound in the area of Landis Valley Road.  The Engine Company cleared shortly after arrival.


2/28/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 12:58 hours Engine 3-13-1 was dispatched along with Ambulance 2-10 (Rothsville) to a three vehicle non-injury crash at Rt.272 and Cocalico Creek Road.  The Engine Company provided debris clean up and spill control clearing at 13:30 hours.


2/15/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 07:03 Hours Traffic 3-13 was requested by West Earl PD to provide traffic control at a two vehicle non-injury crash at Rt.272 and Rt.772.  Arrived to find two vehicles with heavy damage with debris and fluids on the roadway.  Provided spill control and debris clean up and remained on the scene until both vehicles were removed clearing at 07:37.


2/3/08 -- Traffic Control Assist

At 17:50 hours Traffic 3-13 was dispatched along with Traffic 2-7 (Neffsville) per the request of Command 2-11 (Southern Manheim Township) to shut down Rt.30 Westbound at Rt.283 due to a working vehicle fire.  Shortly after arriving at this incident a second call was received in Station 2-11's district for a vehicle accident with entrapment at Rt.501 and York Road.  Units responded to this scene and assisted with traffic control clearing at 18:47 hours.


2/3/08 -- Furnace Malfunction

At 14:07 hours A First Alarm Assignment was dispatched to a residence on Old Akron Road for a reported Dwelling Fire.  The incident was the result of a furnace malfunction and the assignment was held to Station 3-13 with units clearing at 14:44 hours.


2/2/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 02:28 hours Traffic 3-13 was dispatched to assist Station 2-7 (Neffsville) with traffic control at the scene of a one vehicle accident with a utility pole sheared in the 200 block of Valley Road.3-13   Fire Police shut down Valley Road between Shaub Road and Rt.501 until the incident was complete at 03:19 hours.


2/1/08 -- Barn Fire Standby and Traffic Control Assist

At 06:35 hours Tanker 3-13 was dispatched to transfer to Station 2-3 (East Petersburg) and cover their station along with Engine 6-5-3 (Millersville) while they operated at a two alarm barn fire on Junction Road.  Tanker 3-13 stood by until 10:56 hours.  At 07:28 hours Traffic 3-13 was requested to the scene of the barn fire to assist with traffic control.  Upon arrival Traffic 3-13 shut down Junction Road at Landisville Road and remained at that intersection until released at 10:49 hours.


1/28/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 18:02 hours Station 3-13 was dispatched to a two vehicle non-injury accident at the intersection of Rt.772 and Industrial Road.  The Engine Company provided spill control and debris clean up.  Fire Police remained on the scene until both vehicles were removed clearing at 18:37 hours.


1/17/08 -- Multiple Calls

Station 3-13 handled a total of 5 calls during Thursday's winter weather.  The day started at 15:37 hours with Traffic 3-13 assisting Station 2-10 (Rothsville) with traffic control at a vehicle accident on Briar Hill Road.  This was followed shortly at 15:50 hours with Station 3-13 and Ambulance 3-8-1 (Leola) being dispatched to a vehicle accident in the 100 block of South State St. with a vehicle into a tree with one injury.  At 16:04 hours as Traffic 3-13 was clearing the 2-10 call they were directed to respond to Cocalico Creek Road and Millway Road to assist with traffic control at the scene of a one vehicle non-injury accident

Later in the evening at 23:15 hours Traffic 3-13 was dispatched to assist Manheim Township Companies with traffic control at a one vehicle accident with a pole and wires down on Oregon Pike in the area of Landis Valley Road.  The final call of the day was at 23:47 hours when Stations 3-13 and 1-2 (Akron) handled alarm bells on South Conestoga View Drive..


1/11/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 19:52 hours, Station 3-13 was dispatched to a two vehicle accident with one person unconscious in the 4400 block of Oregon Pike. Engine 3-13-1 was on location for about 30 minutes.

1/11/08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 02:12 hours Stations 3-13 and 3-11 (Upper Leacock) were dispatched to the 100 block of Center Square Road for a non-injury vehicle accident involving an overturned vehicle with a pole and wires down.  Traffic 3-13 remained on scene for traffic control clearing at 04:20 hours.


1/10/08 -- Working Building Fire

At 16:47 hours Engine 3-13-1 was dispatched to assist Station 3-11 (Upper Leacock) on a working building fire at Dart Container.  This was the start of a long night for 3-13 crews as eventually the entire station was dispatched to assist.  Tanker 3-13 was sent to the scene at 18:30 hours followed later by Squad 3-13 and Traffic 3-13.  While on scene 3-13 crews worked with approximately 24 other departments assisting in fire suppression and water supply.  The Engine Company cleared the scene at 22:27 hours followed by Tanker 3-13 at 23:06 hours and finally Traffic 3-13 at 23:21 hours.


1/9/08 Reported School Building Fire Assist

At 11:08 hours Tanker 3-13 was dispatched as part of a first alarm assignment to assist Station 2-7(Neffsville) on a reported building fire at Neffsville Elementary School on School Road.  Upon arrival the Tanker Crew was sent inside to search for the source of a burning odor in the building.  Tanker 3-13 cleared at 11:36 hours.


1-1-08 -- Vehicle Accident

At 11:56 Hrs - vehicle accident with entrapment and roller over, Deputy 3-13 arrived on location and found one vehicle on its roof with one person trapped.  A crew from Station 3-13 performed stabilization and the crew from Rescue 1-15 (Ephrata) cut the passenger side door off.  Patient care was performed by Station 1-12 (Ephrata EMS) and PennSTAR 4. Traffic units from 3-13 and 1-6 (Lincoln) shut down RT. 222 to land the chopper on the highway. Units on scene were Engine 3-13-1, Tanker 3-13, Squad 3-13, Rescue 1-15, Ambulance 1-12, Medic 4, PennSTAR 4, Traffic 3-13 & Traffic 1-6.

1-1-08 -- Possible Vehicle Fire

At 1:04 Hrs  Reported vehicle fire on 222 south of Farmersville Rd, Chief 313 got on location and recalled the box, fire services not needed.
