Flooding in WEFC's First DueOctober 8-9, 2005Lancaster County was hit with over 12" of rain in just over 24 hours beginning on October 7th. While the initial impact was minimal due to previous dry weather, eventually rivers in the area began to swell. Throughout the night on October 8th, West Earl volunteers responded to multiple residences for Public Service calls. During the Public Services, Station 3-13 was dispatched for multiple water rescues in West Earl, Warwick and Manheim Townships. In all cases, roads had been marked closed. A total of 4 occupants were rescued from the involved vehicles. Several evacuations were also necessary as foundations of homes became unstable.

Collapse 6-5 (Millersville) was dispatched to examine the damage to the involved structures. Pumps were needed to evacuate water from the structure prior to a full evaluation of the structure.
Sinkholes also began to develop throughout West Earl
Township.



Some of these being farther from home than others, as the hydrant in front
of Station 3-13 began to fall victim.
Following the flood waters receding, WEFC was called out to assist in washing down local roadways. West Earl Fire Company was dispatched to a total of 21 incidents in a period of just over 24 hours. |
